NOTRE DAME LENTEN PROJECTS
NDA is alive with service projects during the Lenten season! This year, the students wanted to put our efforts into helping those in both Kentucky and Indiana who were affected by the tornadoes last Friday. The school will be collecting for two different causes related to the storm damage - Hand in Hand Ministries and St. Francis Xavier Church in Henryville. Money collected will be split between these two organizations. NDA families have always been extremely generous in the past. Please give what you can, but don't cause a strain on your budget!
HAND IN HAND volunteers and staff are providing tornado relief in areas devastated by Friday's tornadoes. Staff from Hand in Hand's Auxier Center have been in the Salyersville, KY area where St. Luke Church was destroyed along with many homes, and West Liberty where they have been part of search teams, clean-up and more for those affected by the storms.
ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CHURCH in Henryville, IN was spared major damage and has been designated as one of the relief centers for the area. They are there as a refuge for the local people as well as a collection/distribution point for needed supplies. At this time, we are only collecting much needed monetary donations. (See the article in this week's Record newspaper page 3).
THE NDA 8TH GRADE CLASS has adopted the Decker family from Indiana. You may have seen or read stories about the mother who lost parts of both legs while protecting and saving her children during the tornado. They will be collecting for this family. The 8th graders created a very moving power point show about the tornado destruction and presented it to the school after our Thursday morning liturgy. You may designate some of your money for this cause, too.
KUNA UPDATE - The NDA delegation was extremely successful at the KUNA conference this past week! This year, our group represented North Korea and the Congo. Our delegation won the grand prize for Outstanding Delegation! We also had one of the top three Global Village displays. NDA won the World Service Award for donating over $1200.00 to the World Hunger Fund. Many thanks to all who purchased the Valentine candy-grams. Our proposal to promote government regulation of the mining of coltan was presented to the General Assembly, passed, and was voted Highest Ranked Proposal! The following students were recognized: Outstanding delegate - Cameron C., Leadership Team - Alexis B., Candidate for Secretary General - Megan S., Media Corps - Brooke S., and Parliamentarian - Matthew G. Many, many thanks to the teachers who sponsor the Y Club and give so much time working with these students - Sr. Catherine Duenne, Mrs. Hurt, Mrs. Kay, Ms. Staley, and Mrs. Thomson.
